HISTORY

Not so much history, but history in the making.   After 37 years of living in suburbia on 12 acres where we have agisted racehorses I finally have the opportunity of following my dream of breeding ponies.  ShowhorseThis has been a lifelong ambition of mine.  In 2008 we moved to our new property of 100 acres at North Dandalup and I have quietly been building up my breeding stock of a few quality mares.  Larry has always told me “what you buy is what you want – what you breed is what you get”.   However over the past decade or so I have found that it is not always possible to buy what you want.  I like all horses and have had many breeds of both ponies and horses that I have competed with, in dressage, showhorse and harness but I finally found my dream and direction in Welsh ponies and cobs.

There will never be too many mares as I want to enjoy all my ponies and horses and not have them turn into a chore.  I don’t intend to keep a stallion but I will never say ‘never’.   I love researching bloodlines and I find it interesting to use different stallions over the mares to find a good “click”.  In this day and age you have access to fresh, chilled and frozen semen and that opens up a huge range of possibilities.

I have acquired the best quality mares that I have been able to find and now have two section D’s in Trapalanda Downs Kylie and  Arawa Rosalita (Imp NZ), one Section C Trapalands Downs Irenee and a lovely B mare Karma Park Fair Chance Nancy had quite an illustrious career under saddle before coming to me.  She has had a riding pony filly by Falconhurst Reprise for Karma Park Stud.  I also have the Section E gelding who is C bred Trapalands Downs Impulse who is my harness pony, happily he is a brown with two white hind socks,  such a joy after all the chestnuts.Shorty in Harness

It was never my intention to have A’s but I have recently become a grandmother and that does very silly things to you.   I have the little Section A filly Nilton Remembrance.  She will be a working  pony rather than breeding.

I must thank Rod Oma for selling me the beautiful Kylie as a weanling and for all the help and knowledge he gives so freely.  Rod truly loves the cobs and has so much knowledge of their breeding etc., and his enthusiasm is infectious.

No doubt there will be setbacks, heartache and joy.  Not all will be champions.  I hope to breed some true to type ponies with good working lives in front of them. I have 20 good years left in me to make some sort of impact and it is up to me to make it all work.

So let the adventure begin.
